Recognizing God's Voice
For leaders · Read together
Team Discussion Guide
For staff, elders or small-group leaders reading the book together. Use one session per Part and one for the toolkit. Read the chapters before you meet, and let quieter people answer first.
Part 1
The God who speaks
Read: Chapters 1–3
The supernatural was never meant to be rare. It was meant to be relational.
Spiritual maturity begins when desire becomes discernment.
God will never contradict Himself.
- Do the people in our church expect God to speak to them? What makes us think so?
- Where do we help people move from wanting to hear God to recognizing Him?
- How clearly do we teach Scripture as the anchor for everything else?
- Who has been an Eli for each of us?
Part 2
How God speaks, and how to test it
Read: Chapters 4–6
Repetition can function like divine underlining.
Testing does not weaken revelation. Testing protects revelation.
- Which ways of God speaking are we comfortable with as a church, and which do we avoid?
- When someone says “God told me,” how do we usually respond?
- Which of the six tests do we practice well together, and which do we skip?
- What has God kept emphasizing to our leadership team lately?
Part 3
Walking it out
Read: Chapters 7–12
God often gives more light to those who obey the light they already have.
Heaven may feel silent when God is training your capacity to listen.
The goal is not to become more mystical. The goal is to become more faithful.
The voice of God is not an end in itself. The voice leads to the Person.
- What has God already made clear to us as leaders that we have not yet obeyed?
- How do we care for people in our church who feel God has gone quiet?
- Which of the common mistakes in Chapter 11 is most likely in our setting?
- How will we keep this about knowing Jesus, not about collecting experiences?
The toolkit
Putting it into practice
Read: The practical toolkit
Discernment grows through repeated attention, not occasional crisis prayer.
- Which of us will keep the Five-Minute Daily Practice during the series?
- Where could people share their pattern logs safely, with humility and accountability?
- What will we look back on three months after the series to see what has changed?
