The Formation Scorecard

Imagine a believer reflecting on these eight dimensions once or twice a year. Not with a score. With evidence.

They are not eight scores. They are eight windows.

These are not eight numbers to assign to every Christian. The framework becomes distorted if it turns into ranking.

  • Where is movement occurring?
  • Where is there resistance?
  • Where is growth becoming visible?
  • Where does formation still need attention?
  1. Sign 1: Relationship With God

What has changed in the way I pray, trust, listen, or depend on God?

    Before

    Now

For example Before, I prayed mostly when I needed something. Now, I am learning to remain in conversation with God throughout ordinary life.

  2. Sign 2: Scripture

Where has Scripture changed my thinking or behavior?

    Before

    Now

For example Before, I read Scripture mainly to learn. Now, I increasingly expect Scripture to confront and change me.

  3. Sign 3: Obedience and Responsiveness

What have I actually done in response to conviction?

    Before

    Now

For example Before, I often knew what I needed to do but delayed. Now, I am becoming quicker to act when I know what obedience requires.

  4. Sign 4: Christlike Character

Where are people closest to me seeing change?

    Before

    Now

For example Before, criticism immediately made me defensive. Now, I can stay present long enough to ask whether there is something I need to learn.

  5. Sign 5: Freedom

What controls me less than it used to?

    Before

    Now

For example Before, fear decided for me. Now, I still feel fear, but I am learning not to let it make every decision.

  6. Sign 6: Discernment

Where am I becoming slower, wiser, and more testable?

    Before

    Now

For example Before, I acted quickly on what I felt. Now, I am learning to test impressions through Scripture, character, fruit, counsel, and time.

  7. Sign 7: Relationships and Community

Where have I pursued forgiveness, repair, honesty, or healthier boundaries?

    Before

    Now

For example Before, conflict meant distance. Now, I am learning to stay present, listen, apologize, and pursue repair.

  8. Sign 8: Mission and Reproduction

Who am I serving, encouraging, mentoring, or helping follow Jesus?

    Before

    Now

For example Before, my faith was almost entirely about what I needed from church. Now, I am beginning to ask who I can serve, encourage, and help grow.

Those questions do not perfectly measure formation. But they make formation more visible than participation metrics alone.
